Former Teacher /Choreographer
Karla Holden began her dance training in Sallynoggin Senior College in 2000.
Upon graduating, after receiving ‘student of the year’ for both her years of attendance, she continued training in The London Contemporary Dance School at The Place.
During her time in college she had the opportunity to work with many in the industry including Deborah Saxon of Siobhan Davies Dance, Hofesh Shechter, Kerry Nicholls and the Trisha Brown Dance Company.
After graduating Karla returned to her native Ireland and has performed with many professional dance companies including Irish Modern Dance Theatre, Ciotog and Yo-Co Dance Company.
Alongside her interest in performance Karla always had a keen interest in the area of youth dance and education. In her hometown of Monaghan she produced and taught many different dance programs for both primary and secondary schools, as well as many after school clubs and youth organisations throughout the area.
She has also designed many different programs for schools ranging from performance to educational, multi media with ICT technology and dance film.
Karla is also fully engaged with many other areas such photography, film and painting.
In 2009 while in Dublin Karla began teaching for the Dublin Youth Dance Company. She quickly became an assistant to the Artistic Director, Mariam Ribon, under her tutelage she piloted the now highly successful Junior section of DYDC. During her time in DYDC she was also the in house photographer for the company and responsible for various Out Reach Activities.
Karla’ also lectures at The Dublin City University, DCU, teaching on the Physical Education and Biology/Maths course since 2008.
Karla delivers the dance strand of the PE curriculum and has been instrumental in the initial design and continues to renovate the course on annual bases.
